A Message from the State Superintendent of Schools
As the State Superintendent of Schools, I am pleased to welcome you to the 2014 Maryland Report Card website. The detailed information you are about to review on the performance of the State and its 24 school systems helps every stakeholder measure student achievement from year to year. Since 1991, Maryland has reported State, school system, and school level information to the public.
Throughout the 2014 Maryland Report Card, you will find Maryland School Assessment (MSA) and High School Assessment (HSA) highlights, as well as information about School Progress, Annual Measurable Objectives (AMOs), demographic, enrollment, attendance data, and other supporting facts. This year, information about the School Progress Index (SPI) is limited due to the field testing of the new College and Career Ready Assessment developed by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC).
Every Maryland elementary and middle school, with few exceptions, field tested the PARCC assessment. In each school, one class was chosen to test either math or reading. The results of the tested assessment are not a part of a school's progress and therefore schools are not held accountable for the results of this field test. To maintain fairness, schools and school systems were not issued new School Progress Indices for the 2014 school year.
We will continue to update 2014 data as it becomes available throughout the year. I encourage you to review the data and to send us feedback on other data you would find helpful in measuring a student's success.
