Introduction

Maryland measures academic progress each year by administering the Maryland School Assessment, the Alternate Maryland School Assessment (for students with disabilities), and the Maryland High School Assessments.

In addition students take other assessments such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress and College Readiness tests like AP and SAT. Your school results on these assessments are summarized here. Clicking on the summarized results will lead you to graphs and more details. Clicking on the grade level will show you results by subgroup.

Maryland School
Assessment (MSA)

The Maryland School Assessment is an annual assessment program that tests grades 3 through 8 in reading and mathematics. Two tests are also required at the high school level to measure reading and mathematics. The MSA results are used in the calculation of whether a school met the AMO target. Science scores are represented for grades 5 and 8 and the high school level but are not a part of School Progress. Prior to the 2012-2013 school year performance results for MSA include both MSA and MOD-MSA students for grades 3-8.

High School
Assessments (HSA)

All students who entered 9th grade in or after 2005 must pass or achieve a total score of 1602 across the HSA to meet graduation requirements. High School Assessments are given in four content areas -- Algebra/Data Analysis, Biology, Government, and English. Students take each of the four HSA tests after they completed the corresponding course. For more information on meeting HSA requirements go to http://hsaexam.org.
